Rapid Media Named Official Media Partner for 2018 Paddlesports Retailer Show

Palmer Rapids, Ontario – The inaugural Paddlesports Retailer Show has just wrapped up in Madison, Wisconsin and already plans for 2018 are underway. Rapid Media has again been named the Paddlesports Retailer Show’s official media partner.

“In addition to a special Paddlesports Retailer edition of Paddling Business magazine, daily reporting from the show floor and pre- and post-show coverage, our team is already lining up more ways to showcase the hottest new products for 2019,” says Rapid Media founder and publisher, Scott MacGregor.

As the media partner, Rapid Media will be focused on three things: promoting products of attending brands to more retail buyers; educating enthusiasts at home about what’s coming the following season; and fostering a vibrant paddlesports industry.

“We’re working on developing a best new product awards program and ceremony,” says MacGregor. “The new initiative will reward innovation, but also serves as a strategic marketing play.”

Award-winning brands will promote their products, which promotes and strengthens the show. Even bigger picture is that new product awards encourage non-endemic media to pick up the stories and deliver paddlesport innovations to their wider audiences.

“While it’s certainly important for Rapid Media to get the news to the enthusiast readership, and we certainly will, it is also important that we are providing ways for mainstream media to help us reach and intrigue new people,” says MacGregor.

Paddlesports Retailer is also an ideal opportunity to celebrate both the new and long-term local, national and international contributions of individuals, clubs, retailers and brands are making in the paddling world.

“There is a real opportunity here to acknowledge those making meaningful contributions,” believes MacGregor. “With the entire industry gathered we plan to share these successes in hopes that some brilliant conservation, participation and community projects can be rolled out on more local waterways, in more communities and in more businesses.”

Also as the official media partner of Paddlesports Retailer, Rapid Media will be showcasing films and recognizing the contributions of athletes and filmmakers including the presentation of the Reel Paddling Film Festival’s People’s Choice Awards.

“And let’s not just do this for those of us lucky enough to attend the show. We plan on live-streaming and recording the presentations for post-show circulation,” says MacGregor. “This year we have an entire year to plan and a successful show to build upon. Who knows what else we may come up with. It’s going to be great.”

Next year’s four-day event will take place at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City from August 27-30. The site was chosen for its central geographic location and its convenient walking distance of the Boathouse District, a world-class urban paddling site on the Oklahoma River. The new site boasts an additional 90,000 square feet of exhibition space.

Paddlesports Retailer announces new location for 2018

Organizers of Paddlesport Retailer have announced plans to host their next industry trade show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 2018.

Members of the Paddlesports Trade Coalition told SNEWS at their first event, ongoing this week in Madison, Wisconsin, that Oklahoma City's new Riversport Adventure Park is a state-of-the-art world-class venue that will showcase leading brands like never before.

“It’s magnificent,” said Bill Kueper, Paddlesports Trade Coalition Chair and VP of Wenonah Canoe. “National team coaches had tried to tell me how great it was. They all under-described it."

At the Riversport Adventures Park, Paddlesports Retailer attendees will be able to test kayaks and paddleboards in all types of conditions.

The Riversport Adventures Park is a new addition to the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation’s National High Performance Center. It was just completed last year and offers facilities for rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding. Close to the Oklahoma River, the watersports complex is also an official U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training facility. With plenty of hotel rooms and dinning establishments nearby, it’s an ideal spot, Kueper said.

“This is an exciting next step for Paddlesports Retailer,” he told SNEWS. “Oklahoma City offers the premier venue for a gathering of this magnitude that will only continue to grow in years to come. And the new facilities make an ideal Demo Day setting, with on-location access to both flat water and whitewater.”

The next Paddlesports Retailer will start with an on-water demo on Monday, Aug. 27, then the trade show will run at Oklahoma City's Cox Convention Center from Aug. 28 through 30. At the on-water demo, attendees will be able to canoe, kayak, raft and paddleboard down Class II-IV rapids while testing all the latest flat water boats on the USOC sprint kayak course.

“We are thrilled to welcome Paddlesports Retailer to Oklahoma City,” says Sue Hollenbeck, director of sports business at the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Our community lives and breathes paddlesports and I think attendees will be blown away by what we have to offer.”

Oklahoma City is also breaking ground on a new downtown convention center. The facility will feature a 200,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 45,000-square-foot meeting space and 30,000-square-foot ballroom. With more than twice the display area of Madison’s Alliant Energy Center, the complex at OKC may offer the Paddlesports Retailer Show an even better venue when it opens 2019.

Paddlesports Retailer Trade Show Secures Rapid Media as Official Media Partner

The only show for paddlers, by paddlers will now have an official show publication

MADISON, Wis. – August 9, 2017 – Paddlesports Retailer, the inaugural, sold-out tradeshow of the paddlesports industry, announces Rapid Media as its Official Media Sponsor. The event takes place later this month at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin from Aug. 29 – Sept. 1.

“There’s going to be a great energy at this show, it's something we haven't seen in North America in Rapid Media’s 20-year history,” says Rapid Media founder and publisher, Scott MacGregor. “Our goal as the leading paddlesports media company is to bring that excitement home to our audience of enthusiasts.”

Rapid Media will produce a special Paddlesports Retailer edition of Paddling Business magazine. The issue will feature more than 200 of the hottest new kayaking, whitewater, SUP, canoeing and fishing products of 2018 as well as industry trends, a full exhibitor list, booth numbers and floor plan.

Rapid Media TV will cover the show and demo, recording live interviews with designers and athletes, and showcasing new products for 2018. Kayak Angler will also be onsite pushing kayak fishing news and updates to Kayakanglermag.com and sending daily tradeshow Kayak Angler This Week newsletters.

“We’ll be trying out new boats, sizing up new gear and having fun broadcasting live to readers of Rapid, Adventure Kayak, Canoeroots and Kayak Angler.” MacGregor explains, “it’s where we’ll get a first look at the boats, boards and gear we are going to field test later, but it’s even more exciting when we get to share it with our audience in real-time. Let’s face it, this is the one show that we’d all be dying to get into if we weren’t already building the booths. What paddler wouldn’t?”

250+ Registered Retailers, Paddlesports Retailer Continues Focus On Paddle Industry

With the inaugural Paddlesports Retailer tradeshow debuting August 29th – September 1st in Madison, Wisconsin the commitment and excitement from retailers have been present throughout. With 250+ registered stores, the industry has gravitated to the show and its offerings. Paddlesports Retailer is "One Stop Shopping," says Ed McAlister, Owner of River Sports Outfitters. “The focus is on one thing and nothing else, the paddler.  With the proven track record of the PR team, we expect nothing less than 110% for PR.”

Paddlesports buyer, Rich Orr of The Alpine Shop in St. Louis, MO believes “Paddlesports is a large and growing category for our company. With the plethora of low-end offerings Big Box retailers are presenting to the unwary buying public, it is critical for specialty buyers to be able to zero in on the brands and models that will allow us to compete successfully and profitably with the big boxes. That is where PR offers value no available at other shows.”

Retailers are encouraged to register for the show at paddlesportsretailer.com, where they can find a full show schedule, updated exhibitor lists, and information about the room block.

Paddlesports Retailer’s Free Lodging for Retailers is Going Fast

Paddlesports Retailer debuted its room incentive a week ago and has seen a tremendous return from the paddle community. “The industry has jumped on the opportunity; being incentivized with free lodging is huge for the retail community,” says Paddlesports Retailer manager Marcus Shoffner. With over 75% of the room block accounted for, Paddlesports Retailer encourages you to make quickly to capitalize on the incentive.

Buyers that register for the show and book lodging within the designated room block will be given a hotel credit of up to $129 per night for three nights, with a limit of one room per store. To complete the registration, email confirmations to info@paddlesportsretailer.com.

The inaugural event debuts August 29 – September 1, 2017 in Madison, Wisconsin at the Alliant Energy Center. For more information about how to qualify for the incentive, visit paddlesportsretailer.com.

Paddlesports Retailer Offers Free Lodging to First 200 Retailers

Paddlesports Retailer, the new paddle-centric tradeshow designed “for paddlers, by paddlers,” is taking that commitment seriously. So seriously, in fact, that show organizers are offering free lodging to the first 200 stores that register to attend. It’s an unprecedented move for a national tradeshow.

“The industry is putting its money where its mouth is,” said Paddlesports Retailer manager Marcus Shoffner in an exclusive interview with SNEWS. “Everything about this show, from its convenient time to its familiar location for paddlers to the onsite experience, has been developed with retailers in mind.”

Bill Kueper, vice president of Wenonah Canoe, Inc. and chair of the Paddlesports Trade Coalition added, "our endorsement of Paddlesports Retailer as 'the show for paddlesports' came with high expectations, and the housing initiative along with readily available rooms make the show increasingly accessible."

Buyers that register for the show and book lodging within the designated room block will be given a hotel credit of up to $129 per night for three nights, with a limit of one room per store. Altogether, that’s the equivalent of over $75,000 going back into retailers’ pockets.

And there’s more to come. The travel incentive is only one component of the show’s unique value proposition for retail buyers. “The industry will soon be announcing additional buyer programs that continue to define this show as the official national tradeshow for paddlesports,” said Kueper.

The inaugural event debuts August 29 – September 1, 2017 in Madison, Wisconsin at the Alliant Energy Center. For more information about how to qualify for the incentive, visit paddlesportsretailer.com

PADDLESPORTS INDUSTRY COALITION ENDORSES PADDLESPORTS RETAILER

MADISON, WISCONSIN, January 13, 2017 — Today a coalition of leading paddlesports manufacturers endorsed Paddlesports Retailer as the industry’s official tradeshow. Paddlesports Retailer will debut on August 29 – September 1, 2017 in Madison, Wisconsin utilizing the common format of an opening on-water demo followed by three days in the hall.

This endorsement followed an eight-week process by the paddlesports industry coalition to unify around one show, to elect an advisory council to be an ongoing industry voice on industry and tradeshow matters, and to lay the groundwork to form a paddlesports trade association.

“We are pleased to endorse Paddlesports Retailer as our industry’s national tradeshow. We are proud of how our industry came together in a very short period of time, defined shared objectives, and rallied behind a focused show we feel will give the paddlesports industry its best commercial and cultural experience,” said Bill Kueper of Wenonah Canoe.

Kueper, who has been appointed the coalition's Chairman, is joined by Sue Rechner of Confluence Outdoor, David Blue from NRS, and Jeff Turner from Kokatat on its industry advisory council. These four were elected by their peers leaving three additional seats to be filled in a similar fashion in the near future.

“Our industry group polled a wide sampling of retailers to determine their show intentions and preferences,” stated Kueper. “We found broad retail support around a paddle-centric show. In fact, over 80% of respondents stated they were likely to attend Paddlesports Retailer 2017.”

In addition to the quantitative support of the show by retailers, the industry advisory council worked with Paddlesports Retailer to create a dedicated fund that will be invested in various ways to ensure the show’s success.

The group felt that show organizers Darren Bush and Sutton Bacon would bring a solid retailer perspective to the show and that Paddlesports Retailer would be organized through the lens of a retailer. “Trade shows consume time and money and this new show is being developed with cost and efficiency in mind,” said Kueper. “Paddlesports Retailer is being held mid-week allowing retailers get back to the store on the weekend.” The industry advisory council is also finalizing a retailer financial incentive program in further effort to offset attendee expenses.

“Our goal is to get as many retailers to Madison as we possibly can,” said Bush. “And because of our show’s low cost basis compared to other national shows, we can pass along those cost savings to our exhibitors who have in turn allocated those savings to this fund. It’s a win-win for everyone, especially specialty retailers.”

Finally, the paddlesports industry coalition expects to augment its focus from tradeshows to larger industry issues of shared importance. “We are all hopeful that this effort to unify around a tradeshow will ultimately be the catalyst to create a trade association,” said Kueper. “Our industry has long needed a voice and a collective effort to grow our category.”

Paddlesports Retailer is now open for both buyer and vendor registration on its website.
